How to convert a PDF floor plan to 3D
Most floor plans arrive as PDFs: from an architect, a builder, an estate agent or a scanner. You do not need the CAD file or any software to get a 3D model out of one. Upload the PDF, and the plan is rebuilt as walls, rooms, doors and windows you can walk through and edit.
Which PDFs work
- Vector PDFs exported from CAD (AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD, a SketchUp layout): the sharpest input, because the lines and dimension text are crisp at any zoom.
- Estate agent and builder brochures: fine, as long as the plan is not tiny on the page.
- Scanned prints: fine if the scan is straight and readable. A photo of a printed plan works too.
- Up to 20 pages per file. A PDF that carries active content (scripts or auto-run actions) is refused for safety; printing it to a new PDF removes them.
Upload the plan, not the whole set
Drawing sets mix floor plans with elevations, sections, site plans and title sheets. The reconstruction wants the floor plan, so the cleanest result comes from a PDF that contains just that sheet: export the one page on its own, or take a screenshot of it and upload the image.
Scale: the dimensions do the work
When the plan has dimension lines (“4.20”, “3,60 m”, “12′6″”), they are read and checked against each other, and the model is marked calibrated: areas and lengths are measurements. With no dimensions you are asked for one known length, a room or a door, and that fixes everything else. Without either, the model is marked estimated and areas are shown with a “~”. Nothing is presented as measured unless something on the plan or from you measured it. The floor plan scale calculator helps if you want to check a printed scale yourself.
Scans and photos: getting a clean read
- Scan flat and straight; a skewed or curled page bends the walls.
- Make sure the dimension text is legible when you zoom in; if you cannot read it, neither can the model.
- Crop away the title block and margins if the plan only fills a corner of the page.
- One floor per upload keeps rooms from being mixed up between levels.
What you get
A structured model rather than a picture: every wall, room, door, window, stair and fixture is an object with dimensions. Orbit it, switch to plan view or X-ray, preview it at night, walk through at eye height, and change it by talking: move a wall, open up the kitchen, change the floors. See the floor plan to 3D page for examples, or open the demo apartment without an account.
What it costs
Every verified account gets its first complete generation free, and conversational edits are always free. Further generations, photoreal renders and exports (GLB, OBJ, STL and CAD formats) cost credits, and each price is shown before you confirm.
What it is not
It is not a file conversion. The PDF's layers and exact vector geometry are not carried over; the plan is read and rebuilt as a 3D model. If you have the original DWG or Revit file and need construction-grade precision, extruding it in CAD software is more exact. For seeing, explaining and changing a home, a rebuilt model is far quicker.
Frequently asked
- Can I upload a multi-page PDF?
- Yes, up to 20 pages. The cleanest result comes from a PDF with just the floor plan sheet, because elevations and site plans on other pages are not floor plans.
- Do I need AutoCAD or any other software?
- No. Upload the PDF in the browser; the model is built and shown there.
- What if my PDF has no dimensions?
- You are asked for one length you know, a room or a door width, and the rest is scaled from it. Without that, the model is marked estimated and areas carry a “~”.
- Is it free?
- Your first complete generation is free after you verify your email, and editing by chat is always free. No credit card to start.
