Modern luxury, on a photo of your room
A room looks luxurious less because of what it cost than because of a few heavy, natural materials, generous textiles and light coming from several places at once. The Modern Luxury preset is built from those, and applying it to your own room shows which of them your room actually needs.
What the Modern Luxury preset asks for
Warm neutrals, marble or stone accents, brushed brass, velvet and boucle upholstery, sculptural lighting, layered warm light.
Things you can ask for
- “Warm neutrals, a marble side table, brushed brass and a velvet armchair”
- “Hotel-suite bedroom: a tall upholstered headboard, wall lights and heavy curtains”
- “Make it look expensive on a budget: keep the furniture, change the lighting, textiles and paint”
- “Travertine coffee table, boucle sofa and a sculptural floor lamp”
- “Darker and warmer, with more layered light”
What modern luxury is made of
Warm neutrals on the big surfaces: cream, sand, taupe, with a deep brown or charcoal to ground them. One metal, usually brushed brass or bronze, repeated. Natural stone in small doses, such as a side table, a lamp base or a console top. Upholstery with depth, velvet and boucle rather than flat cotton. Lighting that is sculptural even when it is off, arranged in layers so the room glows rather than shines.
Mistakes that make a room look cheaper
- Gloss everywhere. High-gloss furniture and mirrored surfaces read as showroom; matt and honed finishes read as expensive.
- Too many metals. Pick one and repeat it in handles, lamps and frames.
- Everything matching. A five-piece set looks bought in one trip; mixed materials in one palette look collected.
- Small art and small rugs, which make a room look sparse rather than elegant.
- A single ceiling light. Luxurious rooms are lit from three or four places at different heights.
Budget level changes the result
In Kubikly the budget level steers the look; it does not produce a price. Premium/luxury reaches for natural stone, solid wood, brass, wool, linen and velvet, bespoke joinery and layered lighting. Budget keeps what can be kept and lets paint, textiles, lighting and decor do most of the work. Try the same room at Budget and then at Premium: what changes between the two shows you which upgrades are worth paying for and which the room can do without.
Setting up a luxury redesign
Upload a daylight photo taken from a corner, with the lamps on too, so the analysis sees the room's real light. Mark the pieces that are good enough to stay Keep: a well-made sofa or a solid table often belongs in a luxurious room as it is. Bedrooms and living rooms suit the style best. For a study, the Luxury Office preset is the closer fit, and Boutique Hotel is the moodier cousin for bedrooms.
Frequently asked
- Will it tell me what the design would cost?
- No. The budget level steers the look; it does not produce a price, a quote or a shopping list, and there are no product links or brands.
- Can a rented flat look luxurious?
- It can show what textiles, lighting and furniture would do while keeping the walls and fittings. Ask for the walls to stay as they are if you cannot paint.
- How is it different from Art Deco or Boutique Hotel?
- Modern Luxury is calm and warm. Art Deco adds geometry, jewel tones and lacquer; Boutique Hotel is more dramatic, with a moody accent wall and a statement headboard or sofa. All three are presets you can compare as options.
