How it is calculated
Value = weight in grams × purity × price per gram of pure gold. 18K is 75% gold, 14K 58.5%, 9K 37.5%.
The spot price is quoted per troy ounce of pure gold (31.1035 g); it is refreshed daily and converted at the day's exchange rate.
This is the metal only. A shop price adds stones, craftsmanship, margins and tax; a buyer pays below spot, often 70–90% for scrap.
