Gold weight calculator
Work out how much a gold piece weighs from its dimensions, from its metal volume, or from its weight in another karat. Every figure is volume × the alloy's density, with the density shown.
| Karat | Density | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 9K yellow | 11.2 g/cm³ | 2.51 g |
| 10K yellow | 11.6 g/cm³ | 2.60 g |
| 14K yellow | 13.1 g/cm³ | 2.93 g |
| 18K yellow | 15.6 g/cm³ | 3.49 g |
| 21K yellow | 17.3 g/cm³ | 3.87 g |
| 22K yellow | 17.8 g/cm³ | 3.98 g |
| 24K yellow | 19.32 g/cm³ | 4.32 g |
CALCULATED: volume × typical alloy density. Real alloys vary by a few percent between refiners, and stones, hollow parts and engraving change the result — weigh the piece when you can.

How it is calculated
Gold weight is metal volume multiplied by the density of the alloy. 18K yellow gold is about 15.6 g/cm³; 14K about 13.1 g/cm³; pure gold 19.32 g/cm³.
A plain band's volume is the ring between its inner and outer circles, times its width. A D-shaped (court) profile holds about π/4 — 79% — of the metal of a flat band of the same width and thickness.
Swapping karat keeps the volume and changes the density, which is why the same ring in 22K weighs about a third more than in 14K.
